how to wire your zumo gps to the batteries of the GSX-R motorcycle

I have a gsx-r 600, a zumo 400 which came with a RAM mount. Fastening the mount was not a big deal and have proper documentation in the box and on the net however I was shockingly surprised that I was unable to find information about how to wire it to the battery. Even though I think this should be published on the Garmin website (they produce zumo) but even they forum is closed and requires registration which requires an admin to decide if you can join or not. I think hiding information and avoid criticism that way is extremely rude so they can suck my ass. Nevertheless I'm willing to do them job for free. If anything goes wrong on your side, blame Garmin.

Time required: 1 hour if you not in a hurry.
Tools required: all cames with your motorcycle. You may need some ducktapes or like that to fix some wires to some other wires.
Difficulty: if you was able to buy your bike alone you will do fine.
Danger: the 12V can't hurt you or stop your heart. There is no chemicals involved. You don't have to lift heavy weight. You may hurt yourself with the screwdriver, though.
Valuable things you may lost: the gps can be directly connected with the battery so thats not an issue. If you avoid touching your GPS witout washing your hands then you won't hurt anything. Have an old rag or something like that on the ground so you can temporarily store the screws and the tools without loosing them.
  1. There are a pair of screws (1) to remove. To release them you (as almost always) have to screw them counter clock wise. You can remove the seat now (mowe it forward and up)
  2. The next screw to remove is the one marked (2). Do not lift the tank (9) yet!
  3. Now you can remove the side items (8). They hold by velcro and a hook. Lift and pull back. Be carefull as this is the point when you can harm your motorcycle during this process. You need to do it or else you can't hide the wires properly.
  4. To hold the tank (not really your tank but...) you need a strut. With your ignition key you can open the back 'trunk' of the motorcycle. Under the lid you will find the strut to use to keep open the tank)
  5. All you have to do is hide the wires (3)(4). I did it like on the pictures. Black wire to black wire (ground) and red wire to red wire (just in the movies) There is a small screw (6), which is kinda easy to spot. You doN't have to fully remove it as you can snich in your wire to the others.

  6. Wash you hands, dude (or chick). We done with the dirt part as soon as you assembled your bike back to its original shape.
  7. You can plug the electriciy to the mount now. I assembled the holder earlier (5). I don't have the mini-screws to fix them in place but thats ok. If you want to remove the plug you should use the right tool so to save your ignition key from breaking :)
  8. Check your GPS in place. If you see the battery status marker then your GPS running on batteries. If you can't see it then your wireing was ok.
